Who are the ngen?
Words in ancient languages hold extraordinary insight and are a floodgate to observations, knowledge, and wisdom.
Whenever civilizations across the globe with different mythologies and cosmologies agree on a topic, it’s noteworthy. This is the case with the ngen, the spirits or guardians of our world, planet, the Earth.
According to all major ancient civilizations, there are beings present all around us. “Hidden people” live in rocks, trees, water, fire, plants, mountains… spirits live in everything alive - what we call nature.
Ngen (ñee-en) in particular is the Mapuche (meaning “People of earth”) tribe’s term that refers to these spirits. The ngen is the essence, owner, or guardian alive in each natural being. For them, these living beings sustain harmony on Earth. And people across other traditions noted the same…
In Africa (the Akban), northern Europe (the Faroe Islands), Siberia (Shamanism), South America (Maya, Quechua, Mapuche), and the Indian Subcontinent (Vedic tradition), to mention a few, humans have known that spirits exist in various forms that surround us. People interact with these spirits for guidance and to receive blessings.
Plenty of our ancestors noted this. Is it just a coincidence? Can we too live with this awareness? What for?
Contemporary humans also have references to these hidden people. We recognize faces in rocks, figures in trunks and trees, and all kinds of creatures in the clouds. The living ngen are evident and more available than we might be open to considering.
Living spirits all around us hint at the great magic that thrives under but a thin veil.
Stay tuned,
